If you have been to any restaurant, especially high-end restaurants, you would have mostly likely seen the Head Chef of the establishment dressed in his fabulous Toque and elegant Chef coat, as he moves around speaking to customers or making some elaborate dish for his esteemed clientele.

Chef coats are not only a fashion statement in the kitchen, but are mainly created to provide protection to the wearer from flames and hot spills. Hence, they are made of very high-quality materials that are both fire and heat resistant in order to keep the wearer comfortable and cool during food service in a hot and humid kitchen.

One of the most common fabrics used for Chef coats is Cotton. Cotton is a very breathable natural fabric and is comfortable to wear. As it is a natural fabric it does not cause irritation or itchiness. The cotton fabric used for Chef coats is usually very thick, as it needs to protect the wearer from the various hazards of a busy kitchen. It is a very versatile fabric, and very durable, hence there are various different designs of jackets that are made from Cotton, from elegant and stylish high-end jackets to more loose-fitting low-end ones. Whichever the type of Chef coat or jacket that is made, its main aim is to protect the chef and keep him or her comfortable during work.

There are very high-end types of cotton fabric such as Egyptian Cotton and Prima Cotton, considered so because of the higher quality of its fibers and weave, as well as Polycotton, which is a cotton and polyester mixed fabric, and is also used for creating Chef uniforms. In the case of polycotton, the higher the ratio of cotton to polyester, the better the quality the fabric is, and thereby a better final product in terms of uniforms for your hardworking staff.
