The series protagonist is Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) , who obtains a residential programme at S Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital (A fictional Hospital In Seattle).she was assigned to work under Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) ad with Dr.Cristina yang (Sandra Oh), Dr. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Afterwards Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) replaces Dr. O’Malley and Dr. Stevens after the death of George and departure of Izzie, In the sixth season. The Surgical Wing was supervised byDr.Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) who is replaced by Dr.DerekShephard (Patrick Dempsey) and later Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).

 

Dr. Erica Hahn (brooke Smith) replaces Dr.Perston Burke (Isaiah Washington) who departs at the conclusion of third season. Dr.Erica Hahn leaves the show during fifth season and is later on replaced by Dr.Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) who leaves the show at the end of eighth season.

 

Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) who is introduced in the second season leaves the show at the end of third season In order to launch her own spin-off private practice. Dr. Lexie grey (Chyler Leigh) half-sister of Meredith, first appears in season three but died at the end of season eight. At the end of season second Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) enters the show. At the beginning of sixth season Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is given series regular status.
