Brief Guideline For Writing Analysis Essay

Analysis essays are frequently assigned to the students with a view to check and enhance their analytical abilities, there can be many types of analysis that a student can be asked to write, from literary analysis essay to critical analysis essays. The most common one out of the two is the character analysis essays because it deals with a character. Students just have to open their books, select a character and start writing an essay on it.

First step:

Introductory paragraph:

Here, you will be providing a brief description of the novel or play from where you will be picking up a character then provide a background about the character you would be analyzing in character analysis essay, define the role of the character in some lines, there are many great and famous fictional characters that can be effectively used for writing character analysis essay, for example; Hamlet, Macbeth or Romeo from William Shakespeare works. You can also go for something that is not common like Henry from one of the Shakespeare’s play.

Second Step:

Body Paragraphs:

Body paragraph would be discussing the character in detail; it is advisable that you divide the body of analysis essay into two or three paragraph depending on the material you have in your hands. In the first paragraph, you will be highlighting the good and bad shades of the character. It is not easy to decide whether you are going for a protagonist or antagonist approach because no character is perfect. In the second paragraph, your quest of the character would begin, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the character and mention them in the essay with reference to the context.

In the last paragraph, you would be discussing the elements of symbolism linked with the character you are discussing in the play.

Third step:

Conclusion:

Conclusion would be summarizing the entire essay into a small paragraph, writing a conclusion is always a challenge because you have to include all the important aspects in it in a concise manner. An ideal conclusion consists of a thesis statement, all the major points from the essay and a short summary. So make sure that you are justifying the nature of the conclusion in full sense. Moreover, you can also provide your personal viewpoints about the character as well but not in more than two lines.

Hence, you can easily write character analysis essay if you have thoroughly read the novel and understood the dynamics of the character. You will be done in just three steps only if you have read the novel or the play. You can also write on one quality of the character that can be either negative or positive depending on your own perspective of the character.
