When it comes to choosing the right computer monitor do you find yourself a bit confused on all the different types of monitor that are on the market? Just like we have many choices on the brand and model of computer we wish to purchase, we also have a choice on the type of monitor we would like to use. Below is a list of the most common types of monitors and the specific features of each.
ñ LCD monitors- LC stands for liquid display monitor. These are generally slim and compact and are considered to be highly energy efficient. LCD monitors consume less power than other monitors but since the have a low dependency on back light technologies, they can also prevent some issues. Some of the most common issues reported with these type of display screens are limited viewing angles, colors and contrasts may not be as bright and some have reported having issues with screen tearing and distortion of images.
ñ Plasma – These display screens are newer and are a high contrast. The bright colors and sharp contrasts allow for a clear and highly defined image viewing. Plasma monitors have a larger viewing area and are also a bit heavier than the LCD's. One draw back to Plasma is that they do not allow the use of optical objects and are known to suffer burn in images.
ñ SED Display- This display is a high resolution display that is presented on a flat screen. SED stands for Surface-Conducted Electron-Emitted Display. This unique design of monitors allows a thin layer of air to pass which can help with the lifespan of the monitor.
Of course, there is always the original computer monitor as well. These are known as CRT's but when it comes to buying a new computer finding a new CRT may be a challenge. All of the new monitor’s will provide one with a great visual experience, one will just need to see which one best suits their needs.
