Hangover

A curtain is a piece of drapery usually hung at the window. The primary function of the curtain at the window is to block the light from coming in and also from going out, so as to avoid being seen from outside. Curtains may also be hung at the entrance of the room, a terrace or balcony. They can also act as a temporary partition between dressing space and other part of the bedroom.

Selecting the type of curtains

Depending upon the window where the curtain is to be hung; which means that depending upon how much light comes in directly and how much you wish to block; the number of layers can be decided. A simple one piece of cloth will do for an average window, but West or North side window may demand two layers-shear and main curtains. This provides the convenience of three types of light quality in side the bedroom:
1. When only shear is spread – well for reading etc., in early part of the day.
2. When only thick curtain is spread – while sleeping etc., in the afternoons.
3. When both the curtains are spread – required while dressing up etc. in the daytime or night.
After deciding upon this, the material should be finalized. Plain cloth is the usual choice, but carpets, thin rug; adventurous people may also use nets.

Appearance

A curtain is an important part of the interior of a bedroom and while deciding about it, many issues should be considered. The market is full of variety and deciding upon the final choice calls for careful consideration of many things: like
COLOR – The color of the curtains should be from the same family of the color of your walls and furniture, but preferably of a darker or lighter shade. This enhances the whole “look” of the room. Same color curtain fail to make a statement thus should be avoided.
PATTERN – The pattern should be, again, going well with the rest of your furniture pattern. It should be accentuated and not of direct resemblance. Care should be taken that it does not carry too bold shapes or motifs, since this will concentrate the attention only on curtains.

Drawing Conclusions

Ultimately, while selecting the curtain, you should visualize how it would look after being drawn to its full length. Maintenance, i.e. wash ability of the material and endurance for various weather conditions should also be kept in mind. Curtains play a major role in creating ambience for the bedroom and should therefore be selected wisely.
