What are dumb bells:

Dumbbells are those pieces of equipments that are used specifically in weight training. And is considered as a type of free weight in the category of gym equipments. Dumb bells are usually meant opt be held in one hand. For this reason dumb bell always comes in pairs. The origin of dumb bells is rooted in India, where its ancestors were found for more than a million years ago and still in the shape of clubs. In those times it was generally used by the wrestlers, body builders and the sports persons. Today almost any one wishing to increase the size of the muscles and its strength. Then word dumb bell originated in England in Tudor England where it refers to the devices used for ringing the church bells and were widely known for their impact on increasing the size of the muscles. This created a trend in the 16th century and all the rich men of installed similar devices in their homes. Dumb bells were in use in the United States since the 18thg century.

Their uses:

The present dumb bell which we see as two equal weights attached to a handle appeared only by the end of the 19th century. Dumb bells are mainly of two types the fixed weight ones and the ones with adjustable weights. The adjustable dumbbells are available right from 1 to 40 cast iron disk plates that can be slid into the bar and then locked with a bolt at the either ends. In case of the fixed weights the weights are created in the shape of the dumbbells. They are the expensive variety and most of these are coated with rubber coating for safety measures. Dumb bells can be used for all the types of resistance weight training due to its flexible features.

Exercising with dumb bells and watching television:

The two most popular types of exercises with dumb bells are the bench press and the biceps curl. These can be easily done with a little caution at home. And to the make the work out more enjoyable watching a television program while exercise would be perfect. However while using dumb bells without wearing gloves can cause calluses on the palm of the hand.
