What is Celebrex? Containing celecoxib as its main and active ingredient, Celebrex is NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used to cure pain resulting from arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, and colonic polyps. This medicine is also able to treat conditions such as joint pains, fever, swelling, and tenderness, which result from osteoarthritis, juvenile arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. In addition, Celebrex can also be used to treat patients with familial FAP who have not had their colons removed. How does this medicine work? Being an anti-inflammatory drug by nature, Celebrex’s main action is against those enzymes that cause inflammation to various body organs. Among these, prostaglandins are a prime component which contributes to arthritic symptoms such as swelling, pain, tenderness, etc. In order to combat the prostaglandins, Generic Celebrex begins inhibiting the cyclooxygenase – 2 or COX-2 enzymes. With the diminishing level of COX-2, production and circulation of prostaglandins begins to decline steadily. After some time, presence of COX-2 is reduced to a negligible amount. Consequently, the level of prostaglandins is also greatly reduced in the body, which is how pain, inflammation, etc. is alleviated. How should this drug be taken? The most important thing to be kept in mind while consuming Celebrex is that this medicine should be taken exactly as per the doctor’s prescription. This is so because overdosing on this drug can cause some major health hazards, which usually present themselves as the various side effects of this drug.
