How To Select Argumentative Essay Topics

Persuasive or argumentative essays are meant to convince the audience of one’s viewpoint about a particular topic. These types of essays are the most common one because it shows a student’s mental ability to analyze and convince the reader about his point based on sturdy research work and references. Argumentative essays are the most convenient way to show and develop analytical and writing abilities.

But, the biggest problem what students faces is the topic selection for persuasive or argumentative essay, they don’t know which topic would attractive and interesting enough to grab the attention of the readers. Basically, they don’t know how to craft a criterion for selecting a good argumentative essay topic.

Argument essay topic selection criteria:

1- Make sure you are selecting a prevalent problem that is burning in the society; this will interest the readers in the essay. You can read the newspaper to get the first hand information about the world. You can also select any latest research work that is a bit controversial to allure the readers to write argumentative essay.

2- You can also select a topic that has two different viewpoints, in which you will take side of the one points and provide sturdy arguments to support it in the essay or you can also discuss both side of the arguments.

3- Choose argumentative essay topics that is interesting doesn’t meant o develop something out of the world, rather select the one on which people want to gain information and are interested in.

4- A topic should be something which not only provide information but is interesting and attractive enough to engage the readers in the argumentative essay.

5- If you will write on the topic that is common then nobody would take interest in reading it, so find out something on which you can think, has knowledge, easily search the material and most of all interest you the most.

6- Try to go for a topic that is a bit mysterious and people want to know about it in detail, if you won’t create an element of mystery then obviously it won’t be able to hold the readers till the end.

7- The most important thing is to confirm the topic from the teachers so that you wont find any future problems. You can also ask them to provide you with a guideline to write argumentative essays as most of the colleges or universities do provide.

8- In argumentation essays especially, students commit a very grave mistake and that is to mention some contradictory statements in it, so make sure you are not doing the same thing in it.

Hence, argumentative essay writing won’t be difficult or painstaking if you have selected a topic that is interesting, intriguing, attractive and mysterious enough to grab the attention of the readers. Final word of advice is to consult your teacher before the final decision about the topic selection for argumentative essays. Also, use your head to develop different ideas and arguments for looking to the topic from different angles and perception.
