How to tell if your computer is infected with Spyware

We all hear about all the viruses that are circulating the internet, but how do you tell when your computer has become infected. There are many different types of viruses and Malware programs floating around the internet and all of them will have a varying degree of damage. No virus is ever a good thing and knowing what to look for can help to prevent the problem from becoming worse. Learning where spyware comes from can help in determining if your computer has become victim to a virus.

Spyware programs can come from a site that you visit or from a program or application that you download and install on your computer. These are then installed on your computer without your knowledge. There are many different types of Spyware and they can do a variety of different things none of them which are good things. The most important thing to keep in mind is that Spyware will comprise your online security. Some of the Spyware programs are sophisticated enough that they can see every word you type. Think about how many passwords you enter to your personal information on a daily basis. Your email is at jeopardy as well as any site that you log in and provide a password for. If you are like most people, you may do your banking online. If there is Spyware on your computer, you may have just revealed your  bank account info to the entire world so to speak.

So now that you know had bad they are, how do you tell if your computer is at risk. First and foremost always have an active anti virus running. Keep your anti virus program up to date but also know that anti virus protection alone is not enough. Keep an eye on how your computer is acting and performing. Have you noticed any changes to your browser or have you noticed any new pop ups, icons or toolbars? If you see new items that you have not personally put there this is cause for alarm.  Always know the site that your visiting and never download anything from a website that you unfamiliar with. Be safe with emails as well and never open attachments unless you know the sender.
