Loosen the surface

Lawns also known by the name of turf have been an inherent part of gardening since the colonial days. Although most gardeners would agree over the fact that a good turf can only be the result of professional care but the truth is that just by following some simple steps almost everyone can yield those lush green lawns in the front yard. These steps include raking, feeding punching and zapping. They may sound more like the latest video game but are surely the keys to a healthy turf. Another very important point to remember when it comes to lawn cultivation is of the seasonal factor.

Life cycle of lawns in short:

At least most of us who are related with gardening must be aware of the fact that beautiful lawns are always made in the falls. However, very few homeowners are found to stick to this idea. Studies in the lifecycles of grasses suggests that during the autumn is the time when the lawns do their big time preparations for the next 12 month for the developments of their root systems that will help them in becoming drought and stress tolerant in the coming year. It is in the same time that the grasses can withstand all the stressful as well as the helpful procedures at the same time.

Loosening of the surface:

A beautiful turf can really bring beauty to any landscape creating an inviting view for the passers by. It is the most perfect background for other landscape elements including trees and shrubs. Even though the survival conditions for the turf grasses are wide for better results it is always necessary to start with a proper preparation of the soil. This not only involves the removal of the soil but also loosening the upper layer of the soil. This is very essential from the lawn growing point of view since the loosening of the soil will provide enough room for the grass root to establish firmly and deep in the soil. Loosening the soil also has other significant properties. For example loosening also helps in the retention of moisture and water within the soil for a comparatively longer duration of time. Loosened soil also helps in the better absorption of the fertilizers.
