Setting Fitness Goals and Sticking To Them

Overweight? Do you want to lose weight and be fit? Do you want to work out?

One of the greatest challenges to working out is finding exercises that you like and then sticking with them. Experts and really common sense, will tell you to choose an activity you enjoy. It will be easier to do on a daily basis and more fun.

Once you select that activity, whether it’s running, biking, weightlifting, a good way to stick with it is to set some fitness goals. They could be done at the beginning of a New Year, the summer or maybe you just feel like it’s time to set a goal for motivation.

Write or type your goals down on a piece of paper. Then, place the goals somewhere to constantly look at them. Maybe it’s on your refrigerator, your bathroom mirror or near your office desk. The more you look at them, the more you’ll be likely to achieve them.

If you have a roommate or an office mate, they will see your goals and possibly ask how things are going. That’s motivation and you will be held accountable!

Another place to write your goals down is in a notebook. Some people like to take this with them to the gym and cross off their completed exercises. Runners and bikers may want to log their daily or weekly mileage.

Once you set some fitness goals, a good way to take it to the next level is to sign up for a race or a walk. This will be an additional way to work toward a goal and if you sign up in advance, you’ll have a few months to work toward this goal.

A race or walk could include a 5k running race, a walk for cancer or a cause that you’re interested in that will provide an opportunity for you to give to this organization.

Everyone has the best intentions to stick to their fitness goals. However, sometimes life will get in the way and throw you off track. It will be frustrating but don’t beat yourself up. Start out slowly if you have taken a lot of time off.

If you are preparing for a running race, don’t try to play catch up with your mileage. Jump back onto the training schedule and just look ahead.
