Keep all the pool products handy The first step is to check your inventory of pool products. Working on the pool cover Before you remove your pool cover make sure to remove the leaves, dust and standing water (if any) from the pool cover. Thereafter you can remove the cover from the pool. Once the cover is removed, wash it gently, let it dry and then store it for the next season. Re-inserting plugs During the off season, you must have removed the drain plugs and all the hoses for filters and pumps. It's time to re-plug all of them and fill the water till normal levels. Set the pump on back wash then, so that the entire old water goes away.
Check for cracks Though you did all that is required to keep the pool safe during the winters, but due to the harsh weather conditions it might have got little cracks somewhere round the corner. It's just a possibility there might be some leaks, it's better to check for a safe side.
Cleaning of the pool Even after back washing of water, you will have to vacuum the remaining debris, algae or other small dust particles.
Working on the water chemistry Let the water circulate in the pool for a duration of 8-12 hours. Thereafter, add chemicals in it as per the pH level, calcium hardness and total alkalinity. For checking the chemical level of the water, you can take a sample of water to the local pool professional. Make sure to follow the steps he recommends for maintaining the balance of water.
